PURE MIND & Practice
The Silent Knowing of God Within
For the part of me that longs to rest in the stillness of God’s knowing.
1. What Is Pure Mind?
Pure Mind is your natural awareness before thought — untouched, radiant, and whole. It does not come and go; it simply is. When the mind grows quiet, Pure Mind reveals itself as a deep and loving presence — the same stillness Jesus called “the Kingdom within.”
“The mind is luminous, but it is defiled by visiting defilements.” — Buddha
“The Kingdom of God is within you.” — Luke 17:21
Pure Mind is both the witness of all experience and the heart of God within you.
2. Pure Mind and God
Pure Mind is not separate from God. It is the way God knows Himself through you — the silent consciousness in which all life moves. When you rest in awareness without effort, you rest in the very Presence of God. This presence is pure, still, and overflowing with love.
“Be still, and know that I Am.” — Psalm 46:10
3. How to Experience Pure Mind
- Morning Practice — Resting as Awareness
- Sit quietly and breathe naturally.
2. Feel your body as part of the whole field of awareness.
3. Whisper inwardly:
“I rest as awareness.”
“I am awareness itself.”
4. Let all thoughts, sensations, and feelings come and go within this still field.
Remain for 10–15 minutes. Don’t seek an experience — simply be the one who knows.
- Midday Practice — The Loving Gaze
Pause throughout your day and look gently at whatever is before you. Let your eyes soften. Sense that the same awareness that looks through your eyes is the same awareness that sees through all beings.
“Wherever I look, I see God looking back.”
- Evening Practice — Returning to Stillness
Before sleep, rest your hand over your heart. Breathe slowly and whisper:
“Thank you, God, for this day.”
“Thank you for the silent knowing of Love that never leaves.”
Let gratitude dissolve the day into peace.
4. Practices That Awaken Pure Mind
- Mindful Breathing: Feel the breath as a bridge between heaven and earth.
• Silence and Prayer: Begin prayer not with words, but with presence.
• Contemplative Journaling: Ask, “What is aware right now?” and let the question open into stillness.
• Kindness and Service: See each act of compassion as a reflection of the Pure Mind within all.
• Surrender: Trust that the mind need not be perfect; it only needs to be still enough for Love to shine through.
5. Reflection and Journaling Prompts
- When I rest in stillness, what do I notice behind my thoughts?
2. How does awareness itself feel — does it have a color, a tone, a presence?
3. In what ways have I already known God through awareness?
4. What stories or identities am I ready to release into this silence?
5. How can I bring the qualities of Pure Mind — clarity, compassion, gentleness — into my relationships and daily life?
6. Closing Blessing
May I rest in the clear, luminous stillness of Pure Mind.
May I remember that this knowing is the same as God’s Love within me.
May all beings awaken to the peace of their own Pure Mind.
1. What Does PURE MIND Mean?
Pure Mind refers to the mind in its original, unconditioned state—before concepts, judgments, or personal identity arise.
It is awareness itself: luminous, clear, still, and awake.
In many wisdom traditions it’s described as:
-
Buddhism: “Pabhassara citta” — the luminous mind, naturally pure but obscured by passing defilements.
-
Christian mysticism: “The mind of Christ” — consciousness filled with love, stillness, and unity with God.
-
Advaita Vedanta: “Pure Awareness” — the Self beyond thought and form.
In essence, Pure Mind is the silent clarity that witnesses all experience—thoughts, sensations, emotions—without being affected by them.
2. Is PURE MIND the Same as GOD?
In language, the words differ, but at their deepest meaning, they can point to the same reality.
-
When the ego-self quiets, what remains is a vast, loving presence—Pure Mind, God, or Christ Consciousness—depending on the language of the heart.
-
God can be experienced as the Source and Love within all things, while Pure Mind is that same divine awareness known from within.
-
So while not all traditions use the word “God,” the essence is one Presence, one Knowing, one Love—beyond form, beyond belief.
You might say:
“Pure Mind is how God knows Himself through me.”
3. Can It Be Experienced Through Meditation?
Yes — in fact, meditation is the most direct path to realizing Pure Mind.
When the noise of thought settles, the natural clarity of awareness shines through effortlessly.
This experience is not created by meditation; it is revealed.
Like the sun behind clouds, Pure Mind is always present—meditation simply allows the clouds to part.
4. What Meditations Are Best?
Here are several practices that open the door:
a. Resting as Awareness
Sit quietly and notice that you are aware.
Then, gently rest as that awareness itself.
Let go of trying to focus — simply be the one who knows.
Whisper inwardly: “I rest as awareness.”
Then deepen to: “I am awareness itself.”
b. Breath as the Gateway
Feel the breath as a natural rhythm.
With each exhale, release thought and tension.
With each inhale, sense the living presence that breathes through you.
c. Open-Field or Choiceless Awareness
Allow sounds, sensations, and thoughts to come and go in a wide, open space of knowing.
Don’t chase or resist anything — simply let all experience unfold within awareness.
d. Loving Presence Meditation
Begin with gratitude, then rest in the heart’s quiet radiance.
Recognize that awareness is not cold; it is Love itself, spacious and kind.
5. What Other Practices Promote the Experience of Pure Mind?
-
Mindful self-talk: Speak inwardly from stillness, using phrases like
“I am safe,” “I am loved,” “Love is everything.” -
Contemplative journaling: Reflect on what is aware, who is feeling, and what remains unchanged beneath emotion.
-
Service and kindness: Each act of love dissolves self-centeredness and reveals the same Pure Mind in all beings.
-
Silent walks in nature: Nature mirrors the effortless harmony of Pure Mind — calm, alert, and vibrant.
-
Letting-go rituals: Releasing stories, grievances, and self-images makes space for the pure awareness that has always been here.
Closing Reflection
“Be still, and know that I Am.”
— Psalm 46:10
In stillness, knowing becomes being.
Pure Mind is not something to find — it is what you are when you stop searching.
